Ten Clubbing Commandments

After a week of hard work, we all look forward to the weekend to blow off some steam and let our hair down at the nearest club. There is booze, music, crowd and a dance floor to let out some moves without caring about the worldly problems. But sometimes, some of us take the phrase ‘let it go’ a bit too seriously and make a complete fool of ourselves... Here are the top 10 clubbing commandments for you to follow if you’re looking for a fun night at a club!
1. Thou shall not bother the DJ
The work of a DJ isn’t a cakewalk; it is a state of deep focus and intense concentration. DJs are the soul of a party and everything relies on them. By everything, we mean EVERYTHING!
You demanding for a song, or fiddling with their equipment might just piss off the DJ which is like literally walking straight into a lion’s den.

2. Thou shall not be Sloppy
We’ve all had to face the unfortunate that goes down on a night of binge drinking. At a club, getting sloppy drunk might just ruin your entire night, from passing out in strange places to throwing up uncontrollably, making what was supposed to be a fun night out into a night of ‘grown up’ babysitting.
Clubs do not take kindly to someone ruining their premises, and may throw you out if things get out of hand.

3. Thou shall not mess with Bouncers
I don’t think this point needs any explanation. If your behaviour prompts you into being asked to leave the club, it's best if you do so quietly, without creating a scene.
Just because you’ve had a couple of drinks, it doesn’t mean you’ve turned into The Hulk! Bottom line, messing around with bouncers can get you severely injured.

4. Thou shall be dressed appropriately
Dress to the occasion, place and theme of the party. Remember that nightclubs in India have a ‘no shorts’ and ‘open footwear’ policy for men, which has to be followed.
Apart from following the rules, generally being overdressed or underdressed might make you feel a little awkward or out of place.

5. Thou shall not hit on every Girl
A couple of drinks down, you might feel like you’re Mr. Bond and have a way with the Ladies! But the truth is, you’re probably just drunk! Hitting on everything that moves on the dance floor is cheap and also might just get you into some serious trouble with the club management, after which the only thing you might have to take home is a swollen purple eye.

6. Thou shall not break into a line
Long queues outside a club are very time consuming and can be a little annoying. Make sure you have you sent a proper RSVP and your names are on the guest list. Long queues may make you impatient but remember messing around with the people at the club will never ever get you an entry.

7. Thou shall not be all over the dance floor
Who doesn’t love dancing ? But most clubs are crowded with people trying to dance and drink at the same time, making it a perfect place for drinks spilling all over. Always dance in your own space, you don’t want to be the person stamping or shoving people on the dance floor.

8. Thou shall not get Phone happy!
Getting too drunk might lead to you doing dumb things and regretting it the next day. Calling your ex- will always be a no-no. Taking too many pictures can be annoying for people around you. Also remember drunken antics can go viral with the push of a button. Whether it’s a picture of you lying down on your puke or making out with a random stranger – be aware that this could cost you.

9. Thou shall control the PDA
Things get heated at a club and hormones are all over the place but keep your bedroom moves for your bedroom only. PDA on the dance floor can feel great but you may end up making others around you uncomfortable, and someone may just decide to record your very public modes of displaying affection.

10. Thou shall follow the ‘Bar’ rules
To have a fun clubbing night you shouldn’t be the jerk at the bar counter.
Here some of the top bar rules:
1. Get your drinks faster by making friends with the bartender and calling them with their name.
2. For whatever reason, certain club goers don’t think it’s necessary to tip anyone. Don’t be a jerk. Always tip.
3. Move away from the bar counter after you’ve got your drinks in hand. Crowded bar counters lead to spilling, shoving, stepping and most importantly fighting.

Though most of these commandments are just plain common sense or unwritten rules, when drinking people tend to forget the basics and that may cause you to embarrass yourself or those with you! Happy Partying!
