This International Women’s Day there were a lot of exciting events in the city but nothing seemed to excite the fashionable women of Bangalore more than India’s First Stiletto Run which was held at UB City this Sunday (8th March 2015).

UB City wore a festive vibe as women and men thronged to the front entrance. Some came to watch and cheer while others came to participate.

The event put together by Gold Rush Entertainment with Plugg Networks as the Community Partner had women coming in as early as 9.30 AM on a Sunday morning wearing everything stylish from crop tops to sarees, geared up to run in beautiful stilettos of all sizes.

As women registered, their heels were measured to make sure that they fulfilled the minimum criteria of at least 3.5 inches.

60 women, some of them from as far as South Africa and even Uganda participated in the Stiletto Run to celebrate womanhood, making it a true International Women’s Day celebration. Women embraced the spirit of love and togetherness as they met and wished each other luck.
Before the run Bangalore’s foremost fitness expert Wanitha Ashok held a 5 minute Stiletto warm up session with the ladies. The limbering up which included shimmy’s and shakes had the ladies much enthused even before the race started!

Carlton Braganza from Opus hosted the event. His light hearted humor on the mic held the attention of the ladies who were all smiles till the end!

The judges for the event included two of my dear friends Wassem Khan (Bangalore’s Ace Photographer) and Saloni Arora (Marketing Head, Fossil) along with Sushma Rao (Head of Marketing, Elle Fashionwear).

The race started off on the right foot, with women who made running in heels look all too simple. Each race had about 7 participants who ran together, with the winners of each round competing again in the semi-finale. With each round of the race, the onlookers and the participants never lost their enthusiasm of cheering on those who were running. This was all true to the aim of the event, which was to showcase the multi-faceted image of the women of today who balances between her various roles from being a mother, daughter, sister and wife to an employee, boss, well-wisher and a friend.

The event had women competing for first, second, or third place prizes. Infact, participation was not just for Women. Stilts were provided for the daring men present at the event.

I was worried about the run as I have had a bad ankle for some time now. But amidst all the love and encouragement and with my friends participating, I simply couldn’t resist! The run was exhilarating, and I could see why the ladies were having so much fun
After the semi-finals and finals the winners emerged as Leanne from South Africa who finished first with 21.5 sec , the 1st runner up Swati ( 22 .4 sec) and 2nd runner up as Arti (23.5 secs)

The winners were delighted to get their gifts which apart from medals for their places included beautiful bags from ELLE, stylish Fossil watches and even a pampering session from Jean Claude Biguine. But it was not just the winners who had a reason to smile as the gifts from Fossil, Elle and JCB went to 15 other participants for the categories of Best Dressed, the most glamorous, the craziest, the funniest and even the slowest!
With no injuries (Thank God!) and lots of fun, this event was a huge success! And I have to say one of the best IWD celebration this city has seen.
