With passing time and abundant hangovers, we all think that we have mastered the art of dealing with ‘Drinking like a Pro’. But there were a few things you thought were true, but aren’t actually true. Confusing right?
Here are the Top 6 Myths that people have had about drinking and the scientific reasons behind them being one.
1. Passing out from drinking isn’t that big of a deal.
People in general think that passing out of drinking alcohol isn’t that big of a deal. But in fact, it is. Passing out has been treated like a casual affair but in fact, its actually something which can be life threatening. ‘Passing out’ happens when the body has reached a certain level of intoxication that it cannot take it any longer and they doze off, but this can also lead to alcohol poisoning. “Alcohol poisoning is drinking a sufficient amount of alcohol to suppress the central nervous system so that an individual stops required bodily functions,”
Certain reflexes that keep us alive like breathing, coughing, gagging – all of these could stop and a person might face immediate death. A person might also choke on their vomit & drown.

2. Drinking beer gives you a beer belly
There is technically no scientific explanation to the entire concept of people having a ‘beer belly’. This concept had been sponsored by the beer industry itself.
There are two ways to this though, beer does contain calories & when beer consumed in a large quantity, can add to a few pounds. But, Beer has fewer calories by volume than wine, spirits and even orange juice. Enjoyed in moderation, beer, like wine, can provide many essential vitamins and minerals and moderate consumption may also protect against many conditions such as heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes,” she told the publication.
So the next time people tell ask about your gut, you can’t blame it on the Beer!

3. Coffee and a shower helps in reducing hangover
Too hung-over to wake-up the next morning, after a wild night out?
Coffee and a shower is not the solution. Well, the human body takes one hour to process one standard drink (1.5 oz of hard liquor, 5 ounces of wine, or 12 ounces of beer.) Espresso or a shower may very well wake you up a bit, yet it won't accelerate the procedure of wiping out the awful stuff from your system.
Time is (unfortunately) the only cure!

4.Eating before drinking, doesn’t prevent you from getting sloppy drunk
Well, this is a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ situation . Having a meal before drinking can slower the alcohol absorption process, but it doesn’t prevent them from getting drunk.
Having a belly full of food, takes some time for the alcohol to sink in and give that buzz. Eventually, the stomach would become empty and the alcohol will start to kick in. It’s always advised not to drink empty stomach but drinking after a meal doesn’t eliminate the chance of getting drunk completely.
5. Eating reduces the chances of a hangover.
We’ve all been in a situation where after parties, the phase for Mid Night snacking begins.
The initial thought of these mid-night snacking isn’t satisfying the feeling of being hungry but, it is the idea of getting rid of the pain’s from the next morning hangovers.
The greasy food that does go inside the body doesn’t do anything to the alcohol, because the body has already processed the alcohol, it could. When alcohol is combined with greasy food, it can actually contribute to acid reflux, meaning you’ll feel even worse in the morning.

6.Throwing up helps you sober up and prevents hangovers
When alcohol has been consumed, it induces immediately into the bloodstream. On taking out (vomiting) the very little quantity of alcohol that the body doesn’t take in, it does’nt do much to the existing alcohol content in your body. If you have excess alcohol in your body, the hangover, wouldn’t really go away.
