Summers have already kicked in and we’re all looking for that one weekend, for a perfect getaway! College has started to get boring already, work is getting you all stressed out and it's time to blow some steam out. A quick drive from Bangalore and Chennai, the best place to be this summer is Pondicherry! If you are a party animal or just looking for the perfect holiday this summer India’s French Colony, Pondi has all you need…the sun, sand and sea and a plethora of exciting things to do.

Here are the top 5 most recommended things to do in this quaint seaside town!

1.The Food, Obviously!

Pondicherry has a wide variety of cuisines to offer but their authentic French influenced cuisine has to be one of the best in India! The varied culture means that here you can find steaks and wines at most restaurants alongside traditional south Indian fare of idli and dosa. But what we really love, are the thin crust pizzas here. And if you are a cheese lover then you should know that a few restaurants here use special home made Auroville cheese, for a pizza which is literally, out of this world!

2. Sunrise Festival

India’s only all night long music festival, the Sunrise Festival happens in the city of Pondicherry every year. This year the festival is on the 11th of June 2016 at Ashok Beach Resort and it’s the place to be!

The festival has a wide range of attractions from some of the best Indian and international DJs on the lineup, vibrant production set-up by the beach side, and specialty food trucks with mouthwatering food to keep you charged all night long. If you are a music festival enthusiast this one is a MUST to check out. Trust us when we say that dancing to the view of the perfect sunrise along the east coast is an incomparable experience!

3. Find peace at the Auroville Ashram

Pondicherry has a vibrant history and culture and is also home to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram which draws a huge number of spiritual guests every year. There are interesting exhibitions on the lives and teachings of Sri Aurobindo and you can visit the offshoot of the meditative ashram – the ‘universal city’ of Auroville with its most famous landmark, the Matri Mandir.

4. Enjoy the Sun, Sand & Sea

One of the best things about Pondicherry are its beaches. There are 4 main beaches: Promenade beach, Paradise beach, Auroville beach and Serenity beach.

They are never too crowded and, compared to other beaches in India, the beaches in Pondicherry are pretty clean and well kept. And there is nothing quite as refreshing and soulful as sitting by a beautiful beach! For the adventurers, the beaches also offer a variety of water sports like boating around the Mangrove forests, scuba diving, jet skis and more.

5. A walk to soak it all in

Pondi being a French colony, has a number of houses and building in shades of pink, red, blue and yellow. It’s not only a great pleasure walking around the vine colorful houses in the French part, but it also gives you several ‘picture perfect’ moments to capture. To truly enjoy the experience you must take a walking tour, so that you can see beyond the structures and into the history and culture of the place. There are numerous museums, churches and statues capturing beauty, which is Pondicherry.
