It’s that time of the year again when every weekend is one big celebration! The party season is here… And I bet you are dying to have an awesome time with friends. So here are some tips on how you can throw that party of the year!
When you get started take enough time to plan your party. Remember, you want to make it a memorable one! And this is what you need for an awesome party… Fun, Food, Friends… Oh, I truly wish it were that simple. On a serious note to have a smashing get together you have to consider a lot more things like the location, menu, beverages, theme & décor, guest list and very importantly your budget.
Who to invite? A major factor in the success of your house party depends on who you choose to invite. Invite friends who get along together and generally people who are fun. If you know that guy makes a scene every time he drinks. Just don’t invite him. It doesn’t mean that you are not friends; it just means that you are being considerate for your other friends. Once you have decided on the guest list, send invitations 7-10 days before the party through e- mail, facebook or a whatsapp group. Send at least one more reminder on the day before the party. Keep enough room in your guest list for friends to add a plus one if they would like. The number of guests depends entirely on how many people you know, the size of your venue and your budget. For a comfortable house party your guest list will probably range from 20-50 people. If it is at an apartment its best to keep it down to 10-20 people.
Secret Tip: You may want to consider lying a little about the time. Most people hit a party long after the start time. So in case you want your guests to come in by 9pm, consider having the invite time at 7.30pm.
Location. Depending on the number of people you are inviting assess your space. Usual options are your house, a friend’s house, somewhere outdoors, a farm house, or a bar/club, to a restaurant, etc. In case you decide to throw a party at a bar, a club, or a restaurant call in advance and book a table. If you are looking to throw a party at home, make sure that your neighbors are okay with that.
Secret Tip: Consider inviting your neighbors over if you don’t want them to call cops.
Theme. To add that extra zing to your party plan some fun party games or even a theme! Some common ones are 1960’s/Retro, Toga/Greek, Black & White, or Masquerade. You can get gazillion ideas online. Choose ones that are easy to decorate or dress in. Just because you wanted to try that new nacho recipe and kept your party theme as Mexican, you cannot expect your guests to come in a Sombrero.
Secret Tip: Choose small ways to reflect your theme through elements like décor, food or music.
Food. Talking about Nachos… you probably want to leave the food to the professionals so you can focus on your guests. But if you are a great cook, consider having a bbq manned by a friend and some easy to make snacks that people can readily much on. Don’t forget to have some options for your vegan friends.
Secret Tip: Make things easier and a lot more interesting by having a potluck.
Beverage You need to ask your guests on your invitation list what they will prefer to drink and arrange for a variety. In any case, stock up on water, fruit juice, energy drinks, soda, coke, sprite and ice before your party and keep it refrigerated. If you have a friend who likes to mix drinks assign him/her as the bartender of the night.
Secret Tip: People are usually stumped about how much alcohol they should buy for a party. On an average, consider one bottle of hard liquor to be sufficient for 4 guests, one bottle of wine for 2 guests and 6 pints of beer per beer drinker. If you have limited budget you can even have a BYOB.
Music. One of things that we all usually forget about is the music. It’s always fun to hire a professional DJ if you have a big space and sound systems in place. If you are playing right ooff the laptop at home you can have a musically inclined friend DJ.
Secret Tip: Have your own playlist of your fav songs ready on your phone as a backup.
Once you have your guests coming in, it’s time for you to be the perfect host. Welcome your guests as they enter. If they are home for the first time show them around. As the host try to make sure everyone who wants to drink has a drink in their hand. Being the perfect host doesn’t mean you have to do everything by yourself. It’s essential to not lose your cool, if you are flustered no one will a good time. Have close friends help you out while you’re busy elsewhere during the party. Have one friend in charge of the food, another of beverages and one of entertainment and so on. Remember the most important thing through of all of this is to have a great time with friends and click enough pictures to keep the memories alive!:)
